New Dates Offered For Those Ready to Stop Smoking

KERRVILLE, TX – Peterson Health will be offering the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking® program, a 7 week, 8 course smoking cessation class for adults. The dates have been extended/changed to give the community more time to consider this life-saving course. Classes will be held on Tuesdays for 7 consecutive weeks from 6-8PM starting August 9 through September 20 in the ED Conference Room at Peterson Regional Medical Center, with one extra class on Thursday, September 1st.

Considered America’s gold standard smoking cessation program for over 25 years, Freedom from Smoking® helps participants create personalized plans to overcome their tobacco addition. With a recent new edition, the program is based on the latest research on addiction and behavior change. It approaches the difficulties of quitting in a sensitive, supportive style. Studies have shown that people who have enrolled in this program are more likely to be smoke-free one year later than those who try to quit on their own.

The course will be taught by Audrey Ben-David, a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist. Audrey is the Clinical Supervisor of the Cardiopulmonary Department at Peterson Regional Medical Center. As a former smoker, Audrey knows first-hand the challenge smokers face in trying to quit. Shares Audrey, “I was a former smoker for 25 years. I quit shortly after my daddy died of lung cancer in 1998. I sympathize and empathize with anyone trying to quit smoking. In fact, it took me several times to quit for good. It takes most people 2-3 times to quit. I have been in their shoes and I know that smoking cessation is an attainable goal. As the facilitator of this new program at Peterson, I will be proactive, help participants stay motivated, confident, and prepared to quit!”

Are you ready to quit smoking? Registration is now underway but class size is limited to 12. Cost for the class is $60 and covers the cost of all materials and the certified trainer. To register, call (830)258-7411.

For specific details on the class or for questions, contact Audrey Ben-David, RRT, CPFT, in the Cardiopulmonary Department at 830-258-7582 or email aben-david@petersonrmc.com.

Only Hospital in Texas on List

Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville was recently named one of the Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals in the country and is the only hospital in Texas to make this exclusive list.

The Top 20 Rural Community Hospitals, including Peterson Regional Medical Center, scored best among Perspective Payment System hospitals on iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength Index™. The rankings were recently announced by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). An awards ceremony will be held during NRHA’s Rural Hospital Innovation Summit conference May 11 in San Diego, Calif.

The Top 20 Rural Community Hospital winners are those hospitals who have achieved success in the overall performance based on a composite rating from eight indices of strength: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspectives, costs, charges and financial stability. This group was selected from iVantage’s Top 100 Rural Community Hospital list, released earlier this year.

“Peterson Health is proud of the efforts of the exceptional physicians, nurses and employees who have contributed to our hospital achieving this designation,” said Pat Murray, Peterson Health President and CEO. “Our results as a top health care provider means our community can count on us to deliver the services they need now and in the future.”

PETERSON’S COMPLETES CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

Funds Raised Elevate Three Areas of Healthcare

Kerrville, TX – The Peterson Health Foundation has completed its “A Heart for Healing” Capital Campaign, raising over $8.5 million dollars. The amount raised exceeds 100% of the goal.

The capital campaign was announced in the early winter of 2015 to raise funds for imaging equipment, to expand the cardiac catheterization and interventional lab and to construct a new building for Peterson Home Health and Hospice, and to include offices for Peterson Health Foundation.

Capital Campaign Chair John Miller led the campaign launch with members of the Foundation Board, a steering committee and the Development Department staff of Peterson Health. Through dedicated efforts, Peterson Health Foundation reached out to Kerrville area friends, donors, physicians, businesses and community members to secure pledges and support for the campaign.

Pat Murray, President and CEO of Peterson Health reported that the capital campaign quickly received significant gifts from supporters and area foundations, rapidly moving the campaign toward its financial goal ahead of schedule. Says Murray, “We are so very thankful for the response and support from many friends who recognize the value of our locally governed health system.. The extraordinary support is noteworthy in furthering our mission of providing exceptional, compassionate, patient-centered care.”

Critical to the success of the campaign, the following donors made significant contributions in the campaigns earliest stages: The Stevens Foundation; J. David and Amanda Williams; James Avery Craftsman; The J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation; Neil and Gina Griffin; The Hal and Charlie Peterson Foundation and The H-E-B Foundation.

Details on the new Home Health/Hospice building are now being shared with a groundbreaking ceremony planned for late spring. In addition, Peterson Health is moving forward with the purchase of new imaging equipment, to include a nuclear medicine camera and a 3D breast biopsy guidance system. Construction and new equipment for a second cardiac catheterization and interventional lab round out the beneficiaries of the Capital Campaign funds.
