New Dates Offered For Those Ready to Stop Smoking

KERRVILLE, TX – Peterson Health will be offering the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking® program, a 7 week, 8 course smoking cessation class for adults. The dates have been extended/changed to give the community more time to consider this life-saving course. Classes will be held on Tuesdays for 7 consecutive weeks from 6-8PM starting August 9 through September 20 in the ED Conference Room at Peterson Regional Medical Center, with one extra class on Thursday, September 1st.

Considered America’s gold standard smoking cessation program for over 25 years, Freedom from Smoking® helps participants create personalized plans to overcome their tobacco addition. With a recent new edition, the program is based on the latest research on addiction and behavior change. It approaches the difficulties of quitting in a sensitive, supportive style. Studies have shown that people who have enrolled in this program are more likely to be smoke-free one year later than those who try to quit on their own.

The course will be taught by Audrey Ben-David, a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist. Audrey is the Clinical Supervisor of the Cardiopulmonary Department at Peterson Regional Medical Center. As a former smoker, Audrey knows first-hand the challenge smokers face in trying to quit. Shares Audrey, “I was a former smoker for 25 years. I quit shortly after my daddy died of lung cancer in 1998. I sympathize and empathize with anyone trying to quit smoking. In fact, it took me several times to quit for good. It takes most people 2-3 times to quit. I have been in their shoes and I know that smoking cessation is an attainable goal. As the facilitator of this new program at Peterson, I will be proactive, help participants stay motivated, confident, and prepared to quit!”

Are you ready to quit smoking? Registration is now underway but class size is limited to 12. Cost for the class is $60 and covers the cost of all materials and the certified trainer. To register, call (830)258-7411.
