I was very new to my auto-immune condition, diagnosed by my primary care doc, an internist. I got an appointment with Dr. Barnes very soon after calling. My first visit was enlightening...Dr. Barnes spent a long time with me reviewing my symptoms, examining me and explaining what the course of my illness might be. She told me that new medications were available and effective, but had some serious side effects. She explained the side effects and ordered blood work to screen me for 2 infectious diseases. Taking the biologic if infected could be fatal. I understood all potential side effects and chose the newer medication, a biologic. Dr. Barnes gave me a tapering plan for prednisone, a standard medication for my condition that should not be taken long term. I've made 2 or 3 subsequent visits. In every visit I am given more patient education. What I really like as well as my time with Dr. Barnes, is the helpfulness of medical assistants and front desk staff.

This was my first visit with Dr. Barnes and I was very appreciative of how well she listened. She explained things and understood that I wanted to find out the root cause. That I didn’t want another pill. I look forward to working with her to find out why I feel bad and how to get my life back.
