In this two-part class, we will cover Newborn Care and Breastfeeding support.

The Newborn Care class will review newborn traits, crying and comforting, breastfeeding basics, newborn care and safety.

Babies do not come with instructional manuals but we can help you get started on the right track for taking care of your newborn. Additional resources will be discussed like When to Call Your Baby’s Healthcare Provider, Car Seat Installation, How to Perform Infant CPR, Infant Choking First Aid, and a Baby Supplies Checklist.

The Breastfeeding class will help you get the best start to breastfeeding by sharing breastfeeding during hospitalization.

You will learn when to feed your baby by watching for feeding cues, feeding patterns and guidelines, and how to tell if your baby is getting enough milk. You’ll learn about breast care, hand expression and pumping, and warning signs. We will discuss breastfeeding lifestyle through partner support and involvement, self-care, substances to avoid, support groups, returning to work, and lactation support services.

We encourage expecting mothers to attend with a support person(s). Classes are offered both in-person and virtually. Participants will receive an interactive InJoy book with access to additional education materials to use for continued learning at home.

All meetings are held in Classroom A on the second floor of Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville.
