Celebrating Pet Peace of Mind’s Volunteer of the Year, RandiSue Van Winkle
We are proud to celebrate someone who is truly a superhero in our eyes: Pet Peace of Mind’s Volunteer of the Year, RandiSue Van Winkle.
RandiSue exemplifies the compassion and dedication at the heart of our mission. When a hospice patient at Peterson Hospice was faced with the heartbreaking reality of being separated from his beloved service dog, Callie, RandiSue stepped in without hesitation. She welcomed Callie into her home, ensuring she was safe, loved, and cared for during a difficult transition.
It quickly became clear that Callie needed urgent medical attention. RandiSue took charge, coordinating veterinary care and supporting Callie through treatment and surgery. But her commitment didn’t stop there.
Understanding the deep bond between Callie and her human, RandiSue made regular trips, nearly 50 miles each way, to bring Callie to visit him in the skilled nursing facility. These visits brought immense comfort and joy, creating meaningful moments during the patient’s final days. Because of RandiSue’s unwavering dedication, he was able to pass peacefully, knowing his beloved companion was in good hands.
Today, Callie is thriving in a loving new home, and RandiSue continues to receive videos and updates, a lasting reminder of the difference she made.
Superheroes don’t always wear capes. Sometimes, they show up with compassion, determination, and a deep love for people and their pets. RandiSue embodies all of this and more, and we are honored to recognize her as our Volunteer of the Year.
