Dr. Glanton became CMO of Peterson Health in January 2022. He had previously served as Chief of the Medical Staff at Peterson Regional Medical Center from 2020-2021 while in private practice as a nephrologist with San Antonio Kidney in the Kerrville/Boerne offices.
Chris grew up in Marshall, TX graduating from Marshall High School in 1989. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with a BA in Biology and Pre-Med in 1993. In May 1993, he accepted the Health Professions Scholarship Program from the US Air Force and attended UT Southwestern Medical School at Dallas from 1993 through May of 1997 when he earned his MD. He graduated with honors as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. He moved to the South Texas area in July 1997 when he began his internship at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, completing his residency in Internal Medicine in June of 2000.
He moved to Washington, DC, for two years with his wife and then twins to complete a 2 year fellowship in Nephrology at Walter Reed US Army Medical Center as the first Air Force physician to do so. He transferred back to Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in 2002 where he eventually became the Flight Commander of the Nephrology Section of the 759th Medical Operations Squadron, which began his training in leadership. In 2003, he was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom as a Critical Care Air Transport Team physician team leader flying 20 missions with critically ill patients from areas such as Baghdad, Kuwait City, and Liberia to hospitals at Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany and to Walter Reed in DC. He earned both the Army Achievement Medal as well as the Air Force Commendation and Meritorious Service Medals during his time in active duty.
In 2006 he separated from the Air Force and joined San Antonio Kidney Disease Center Physician’s group as a clinical nephrologist practicing in Stone Oak and Boerne, becoming medical director of the newly constructed dialysis clinic there. He served on the Medical Executive Committee of the group from 2010-2012 and was elected President of the group in 2012 where he served 3 years. He moved his primary practice location to Kerrville in August of 2012 where he also assumed the role of medical director of Davita Kerrville dialysis unit. While attending patients at PRMC he earned a peer recognition award as “Outstanding/Exemplary Practitioner” and in 2020 he received the Leadership award for the annual CALLING values awards on Doctor’s Day. He has participated in several teaching activities, including giving lectures to staff on Hyponatremia, AKI, Evaluation of CKD and Dialysis basics.
He enjoys college football including supporting his Texas Longhorns attending many home and away games as well as attending games at his childrens’ alma maters, Auburn University and University of Arkansas. He golfs as often as he can trying to lower his handicap and enjoys Whitetail deer hunting in South Texas where he has had a lease for 15 years. He enjoys traveling with his wife Melissa and spending time with family and friends and enjoying a good glass of Bourbon or Cabernet Sauvignon. He also enjoys reading the Bible and and non-fiction, particularly presidential history.
